Golf Spikes
and Spikeless Shoes: |
| Golf Shoes are available with
three different types of soles: traditional spikes,
alternative (soft) spikes, and spikeless. Spikes were
created to improve a golfer's traction on wet or sloped
grassy surfaces.
Traditional spikes are metal or very hard ceramic
tips, and beginning in 1994 have been banned from most
US golf courses. Many golf shoe manufacturers no longer
offer traditional hard spikes.
Alternative, or "soft" spikes are
the most common golf shoes on the market. Alternative
spike manufacturer SoftSpikes has a 70% market
share. In 1997 SoftSpikes formed a strategic alliance
with FootJoy, and the FastTwist system was
introduced in 1999. Since 2001, SoftSpike's Black Widow
spikes are the leading spike on the US tour.
Spikeless golf shoes are also gaining in popularity,
as new design technology and materials make it possible
to build a stable, high-traction sole for golf course
wear.

Golf Shoe
Glossary: |
| Golf Shoe Manufacturers use a
number of technical terms to describe the engineering
and style of their shoes. Here are a few of the most
common terms, and a Full Golf
Shoe Glossary is also available.
Last: a mold or shape used to construct a shoe
around. Each company uses one or more unique "lasts"
as the base pattern for a number of shoe styles. Once
you find the fit you like best, you'll be able to purchase
other shoes made from the same last with confidence.
Bal: Bal
styles feature a V-shaped lace opening and offer a wide
variety of styling options.
Blucher: The Blucher style is
preferred for high insteps, and often have open saddles
or quarters. Bluchers allow for more ways to lace the
shoe than bal styles. Preferred opening for person with
a high instep.

How to Measure your Feet:
Your
feet and shoe size can change over time. We want
you to have the best fit and comfort available.
Follow these simple directions to find your proper
shoe size. You will need a piece of blank paper,
a pencil and a ruler.
- Place the paper on a hard floor.
- Stand on the paper wearing a pair of your favorite
golf socks.
- Mark with the pencil at the end of your heel.
Be sure to hold the pencil straight up and down.
- Make another mark at the tip of your longest
toe.
- Next, make marks at both sides of your foot
at the widest part.
- Measure your other foot using the same method.
- Use the ruler to measure the distance from heel
to toe marks, and the distance between the marks
for the widest part of your foot.
- To find your size, use the comparison tables
below. For example, if you are a man using the
U.S. size chart, and your heel to toe distance
is 11 inches, your shoe size is 11. Find your
width measurement to determine the shoe width.
- If your measurements fall between two sizes,
or if one foot is larger than the other, always
use the larger size.
Now that you
have your measurements, choose a chart:
