Golf Shoe Glossary
Bal Opening Bal styles feature a V-shaped lace opening and
offer a wide variety of styling options.
Blucher Opening The Blucher
style is preferred for high insteps, and often
have open saddles or quarters. Bluchers allow
for more ways to lace the shoe than bal styles.
Preferred opening for person with a high instep.
Calfskin The highest quality
shoe leather, known for soft feel, beautiful appearance
and excellent fit and support.
Calfskin Pebble or Smooth
A soft and comfortable leather used for its excellent
feel, appearance, support and fit. Tanned exclusively
in Europe, calfskin is the best leather in the
world. It comes from younger cows with smaller
pores, resulting in a smooth and more supple texture.
It can have either a smooth or pebble grain finish.
FootJoy ComforTemp ComforTemp keeps your feet at a more constant
comfortable temperature. When ComforTemp senses
cold, it releases stored heat. In extreme heat,
it absorbs it to provide a cooling effect similar
to a thermostat.
Full Grain Leather is waterproof
leather used for its comfort, support, fit and
durability. Compared to calfskin, it is the next
best leather available. Full grain is the select,
top layer of cowhide, specially tanned to provide
waterproof protection and a fine appearance.
EVA Midsole/Outsole Ethyl Vinyl
Acetate (EVA) is a lightweight, flexible cushioning
material used for some outsoles and is also as
a midsole when molded to high-performance TPU
outsoles.
IntelliGel An advanced,
temperature-responsive gel which reacts to the
temperature of the foot to provide customized
fit and support.
IntelliShield A waterproof,
breathable membrane that reacts to the temperature
of the foot to provide customized comfort.
Last A last is a form in
the shape of a foot. Once the proper shoe size
is determined, a last can fine-tune the fit.
Nubuc A leather product
made from full grain leather. The hide is tanned
for waterproofness, then the grain is abraded
away to create a light surface nap. Soft and comfortable,
Nubuc is used for its fashionable appearance in
golf and casual footwear. Nubuc is naturally brown,
but can be dyed in a variety of colors. Because
of their nap, nubuc leathers require different
maintenance procedures than full grain leathers.
Oil-Tanned Nubuc Nubuc
leather tanned with an oil process to create a
a mottled, distressed appearance. Most oil-tanned
nubuc leathers have minor surface imperfections
or finish variations for a casual style.
PVC Polyvinyl Chloride
is a soft, durable, and easy-maintenance man-made
material.
Silowelt Welt Construction
in which the outsole is cemented to the welt.
TPU Outsole Thermoplastic Urethane
(TPU) is waterproof, lightweight and durable,
providing a solid and stable hitting platform.
Welt Construction Shoe
making construction method in which the upper,
outsole and innersole are securely stitched together
through a leather strip known as the "welt". |
